About the role
- Guide technical design of data center projects as subject matter expert, mentor, and resource to technical team
- Delegate, lead, and direct work of Project Engineers and Designers
- Conceptualize, execute, and ensure quality throughout the design process to meet client needs and expectations
- Assist business development by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participating in project interviews and presentations
- Manage technical project process and scope within mechanical discipline; review and track scope, schedule, and budgeted hours
- Delegate tasks to project engineers and designers within discipline
- Follow quality management process; conduct project reviews and approvals before QA/QC reviews
- Build and maintain strong client relations; articulate project and design requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting
- Lead technical discussions and mechanical workgroups with project stakeholders; identify key requirements and adapt design accordingly
- Coordinate with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design
- Act as supervisor and resource to technical design team; support staff education, training, and development
- Actively participate in the data center engineering/professional community to stay current with requirements and technologies
- Identify opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables across Stantec MCF business centers
- Contribute to development of design guides, technical memos, and calculation templates related to data center design
Requirements
- Extensive experience in mission critical/data center design concepts
- Experience working on large scale projects with varied stakeholders
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, concepts, principles, codes, and standards in mechanical discipline
- Basic knowledge of practices and principals in other disciplines
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Able to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems and interactions with varied disparate components
- Strong communicator who effectively conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients, co-workers, and technical teams
- Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
- Proficient in applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, Trace 700)
- Working knowledge or proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (e.g. Pipe-Flo) preferred
- Working knowledge or proficiency in CFD software (e.g. Fluent, 6Sigma) preferred
- Knowledge of the construction process and interaction with design
- Equipped to analyze, problem solve, and train others; organized and attentive to detail; flexible and collaborative
- Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline
- Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required
- Minimum 10 years related industry experience preferred
- Mission critical / data center experience required
- Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other professional certification based on expertise required
