About the role
- Deliver task-based deliverables assigned from project leads, with minimal supervision once trained on each task type
- Participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for industrial projects
- Support the team effort to develop electrical contractor installation package drawings and documents
- Perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, deliverable preparation, client meetings, and field support for information gathering start-up and commissioning
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all electrical engineered systems or products for a project, 480V distribution and lower
- Design and/or give input to plant wide control systems that include PLC’s, HMI’s, remote I/O racks, MCC’s, VFD’s, and all associated networking requirements in varying topologies
- Engage in the development of a design through PDF (Bluebeam) sketches, diagrams, and other visual formats
- Utilize BIM technologies in development of 3D models of building’s electrical systems and provides PDF markups for CAD designers
- Prepare and revise documentation in various electrical phases including but not limited to single line diagrams, panelboard schedules, plan/location drawings, electrical equipment lists, cable schedules, area classification, network architecture, and P&IDs
- Cross-check designs against vendor documentation including PLC, I/O and motor control panel schematics
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own work to deliver a quality product
- Work on multiple projects, demonstrating effective time management
- Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating
- Participate in constructability reviews
- Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical group
- Review UL508A panel drawing sets and provide comment, and support modifications/updates to UL508A compliant panels designs (PDF redlines)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering
- Minimum of 1-5 years of experience
- Knowledge and application of National Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes
- Populate a power, instrument and communications cable schedule, including sizing conduits, cable trays, wires and cables
- Size and specify equipment such as PDPs, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and associated overcurrent protection devices
- Lay out electrical rooms, providing required working clearances and access
- Write contractor scope of work summary documents
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness
- Ability to manage time to meet project budget and schedule
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
- Knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, and their typical symbols and nomenclature
- Knowledge of the following systems are preferred but not required: Fire alarm, Wi-Fi, Lightning Protection, Data and Automation Networks, PLC/PAC/DCS’s, BAS/BMS’s, Lighting design and controls, Security/CCTV/Building Access, and PA/Alarming/Notification
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Presentation and interview skills are preferred
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ideal applicant would have experience with at least some of: SKM Power Tools, Visual Lighting Software, Autodesk Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, basic understanding of databases and data structures to manage large-data by leveraging tools such as Smart PID or other engineering databases
- Registered professional engineer (PE), Fundamentals of engineering (FE) / engineer in training (EIT) or other professional certification based on area of expertise preferred
