About the role

  • Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction
  • Assist in the design of building related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials
  • Review equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs
  • Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT and other software
  • Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual
  • Work closely with the Mechanical Engineer and engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools
  • Ensure the assurance of quality, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables
  • Assist with periodic field reviews of construction and construction administration tasks (conduct shop drawing reviews, respond to RFIs, prepare documentation for site instructions or change requests)
  • Perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews and as-built drawings
  • Performs thorough quality control of construction documents
  • Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team
  • Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required
  • Understand and execute and/or direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines
  • Comply with Stantec's HSSE program, with a focus on safety in the field

Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering and a license, or plan to become licensed to practice in British Columbia
  • Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team
  • Ability to work with others on large complex projects
  • Ability to work independently with engineering supervision on small projects
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a “team player” approach
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
  • Good understanding of building mechanical system concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
  • Knowledge or familiarity with National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Codes, National Energy Code, and local amendments/supplements to these documents
  • Knowledge or familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE and NFPA would be considered an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
  • Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Good time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced work environment. Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions
  • Strong desire to learn and work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment
