About the role
- Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction
- Assist in the design of building related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials
- Review equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs
- Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT and other software
- Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual
- Work closely with the Mechanical Engineer and engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools
- Ensure the assurance of quality, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables
- Assist with periodic field reviews of construction and construction administration tasks (conduct shop drawing reviews, respond to RFIs, prepare documentation for site instructions or change requests)
- Perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews and as-built drawings
- Performs thorough quality control of construction documents
- Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team
- Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required
- Understand and execute and/or direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines
- Comply with Stantec's HSSE program, with a focus on safety in the field
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering and a license, or plan to become licensed to practice in British Columbia
- Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team
- Ability to work with others on large complex projects
- Ability to work independently with engineering supervision on small projects
- Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a “team player” approach
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
- Good understanding of building mechanical system concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
- Knowledge or familiarity with National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Codes, National Energy Code, and local amendments/supplements to these documents
- Knowledge or familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE and NFPA would be considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
- Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic
- Good time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced work environment. Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
