About the role
- Lead electrical and controls engineering on smaller and larger projects with minimal supervision
- Evaluate, recommend, and specify engineered systems or products, verifying compliance with codes and standards
- Perform calculations, deliverable preparation, client meetings, and field support for information gathering, start-up and commissioning
- Design and/or give input to plant-wide control systems including PLCs, HMIs, remote I/O racks, MCCs, VFDs, and networking requirements
- Develop designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats
- Utilize BIM technologies and provide markups for CAD designers
- Prepare and revise documentation including single line diagrams, panelboard schedules, plan drawings, electrical equipment lists, cable schedules, area classification, network architecture, and P&IDs
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal teams, consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
- Participate in client requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating
- Assist in developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule
- Lead preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents
- Perform and oversee calculations using company software and manufacturer tools
- Participate in constructability reviews and conduct QA/QC on projects
- Assist in development of new standards and specifications for the electrical group
- Work on multiple projects demonstrating effective time management
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of National Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes
- Knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
- Ability to populate power, instrument and communications cable schedules, including sizing conduits, wires and cables
- Ability to size and specify equipment such as PDPs, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and associated overcurrent protection devices
- Ability to lay out electrical rooms, providing required working clearances and access
- Ability to write contractor scope of work summary documents
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness
- Ability to manage time to meet project budget and schedule
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
- Knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, and their typical symbols and nomenclature
- Preferred (but not required): Fire alarm, Wireless, Lightning Protection, Data and Automation Networks, PLC/PAC/DCS’s, BAS/BMS’s, Lighting design and controls, Security/CCTV/Building Access, and PA/Alarming/Notification
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Presentation and interview skills preferred
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ideal experience with some of: SKM Power Tools, Visual Lighting Software, Autodesk Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, and engineering databases such as Smart PID
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer in one or more US states, or the ability to obtain within one year
