The Mechanical & Piping Drafter/Designer will be part of the design of fueling facilities, including hydrogen, compressed natural gas/CNG and gasoline/diesel petroleum fueling systems. Also, work on gas-detection systems and occasional electrical vehicle DC-charging designs. Develop and produce design drawings primarily in Revit, with occasional work in AutoCAD.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Set up and produce plans, design details, piping diagrams and control-wiring diagrams under the director of the Engineer or Project Manager
- Model fueling equipment and piping for fueling facilities
- Work within a site and architectural drawing environment
Drafting and modeling tasks and work include:
- Maintain drawing and model accuracy throughout project life cycles, incorporating redlines and design changes promptly
- Participate in design-review meetings, providing visualizations and occasionally developing 3D-model exhibits for community outreach.
- Import component or equipment models (STP, RFA, etc.) provided by vendors and manufacturers
- Develop and update model families of fuel-system components that are not available from a manufacturer; may include tanks, pump skids, panels, typically at LOD 200 to 350 but possibly to LOD 500
- Incorporate and reference Arch/MEPS Revit models, survey drawings, border title block files, details, and other reference drawings in PDF or CAD formats from various project teams member/firms
- Coordinate BIM design work with other design disciplines within Stantec or outside firms working on the project team
- Creation and/or modification of drafting views, plan views, view templates, view filters, annotations including keynotes and equipment tags, project phasing, integrated equipment schedules and sheet composition
- Review and comment on design drawings prepared by other design disciplines
- Project collaboration with multiple disciplines requiring knowledge of Revit Work sets, Work sharing, Cloud Models, management of ACC/B360, and development of cover sheets
- Review and comment on design drawings prepared by other design teams, subconsultants or by design build contractors.
Requirements
- Ability to route piping to minimize pressure drop and according to industry best practices
Understanding of various pipe fittings and valve types, as well as SS tubing, fittings and appurtenances
Working knowledge of piping materials and respective application
Fundamental understanding of gas detection components and /or willingness to learn and understanding of classified areas
Familiarity with various codes including Building Codes, California Building Codes and NFPA Codes and ASME Codes
Experience in building components (coordination required with Arch/MEPS discipline)
Working knowledge of Autodesk software including Revit, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Inventor, and Navisworks
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings of all disciplines
Work effectively in a team environment
Excellent organizational skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong attention to detail, consistency and standards in the preparation of drawings.
Minimum 2 years’ experience using Revit to prepare process-type plans and drawings; certifications are a plus.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in the design of fueling or process-piping systems
Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and related experience.
