About the role
- Management of the municipal cemetery including supervisory responsibility for the cemetery’s horticultural staff
- Development of proposals for the conceptual development of the cemetery and implementation of measures
- Advising holders of burial plot rights and next of kin in the event of a bereavement regarding cemetery use, especially selection and sale of plots as well as advice on the permissibility of headstones and plantings
- Point of contact for concerns of other cemetery users, in particular funeral directors and stonemasons
- Horticultural work outdoors, e.g. maintenance of green areas and paths, preparation of graves including operation of all available equipment and machinery, grave inspections
- Responsibility for the inventory of machines, tools and materials including needs assessment and preparation of procurement
- Participation in budget planning, cost-effectiveness calculations and fee calculations as well as other possible administrative tasks
- Building and site maintenance including monitoring safety on the cemetery grounds
Requirements
- Completed qualification as a master gardener (Gärtnermeister), ideally specialized in cemetery horticulture or landscape gardening
- Experience in personnel management and supervision desirable, ideally in cemetery administration
- Empathy when dealing with mourners and people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Physical resilience; no mobility or lifting restrictions
- Confident manner and negotiation skills
- Reliability and willingness to take responsibility
- Punctuality and adherence to deadlines
- Willingness to attend appointments outside regular working hours
