About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build distributed, event-driven services that turn Cloud Custodian into a platform
Develop the GraphQL API used by the console and customers
Build pipelines that execute policies across thousands of cloud accounts
Develop and maintain asset and cost data stores
Design systems that remain correct and observable while running governance workloads at scale across multiple clouds and regions
Work as part of a distributed software development team in an Agile/DevOps environment
Lead backend initiatives and mentor other engineers
Participate in technical discussions, evaluate solutions, and plan implementation paths
Make architectural recommendations and guide teammates through decisions

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of experience building backend services in Python
3+ years of experience leading backend initiatives and mentoring engineers
Strong experience designing and operating distributed, event-driven systems
Knowledge of failure handling, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency
Experience with relational databases and an ORM, including PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, and Alembic
Experience with schema design, migrations, and query performance
Experience designing and evolving APIs consumed by teams and customers
Experience with GraphQL
Hands-on experience with AWS and serverless services, including Lambda, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, and ECS
Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD using Terraform, Docker, and GitHub Actions
Experience with modern testing stacks, including pytest, moto, and containerized functional-test environments
Ability to work on a distributed software development team in an Agile/DevOps environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to analyze problems, compare solutions, and plan implementation
Ability to make architectural recommendations and bring teammates along
Team-oriented, detail-focused, accountable, and receptive to constructive feedback
