About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide authoritative acute clinical leadership for hospital substitution and virtual acute care models across St Vincent’s.
Ensure acute care delivered in the home is clinically appropriate, tightly governed and operationally aligned with emergency, peri‑operative and inpatient services.
Define patient selection criteria, risk thresholds and escalation pathways for acute care at home.
Provide senior clinical oversight for complex or high‑risk cases.
Establish clear re‑admission and deterioration response frameworks.
Co‑design acute admission‑avoidance and post‑procedural pathways.
Embed evidence‑based acute practice within virtual and digitally supported models.
Integrate monitoring, alerting and escalation into everyday care delivery.
Partner with ED, surgical, anaesthetic, medical and ICU outreach leaders.
Drive alignment across hospital and community‑based teams.
Represent acute care at executive and governance forums.
Mentor and support clinicians delivering acute care in distributed environments.
Strengthen clinical decision‑making capability outside traditional hospital settings.
Champion a culture of safety, clinical excellence and accountability.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Fellowship with a relevant College (RACS, ANZCA, RACP or ACEM)
Current AHPRA registration
Extensive experience in acute care decision‑making and clinical governance
Strong background in managing deterioration, escalation and complex risk
Proven ability to lead across specialties and services
Experience in hospital‑in‑the‑home, virtual wards or acute care‑at‑home models
Exposure to digital health or remote monitoring technologies
Involvement in acute care innovation or quality improvement.
