About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records with recent test results and correspondence
- Determine needed services by conferring with providers
- Prepare patients for examinations and escort them to exam rooms
- Record height, weight, vital signs, medications, allergies, personal/family/social history, smoking status, and reason for visit
- Assist in capturing demographic information
- Provide patient care services as needed, including injections or immunizations within State guidelines
- Clean exam rooms, maintain clinical supplies, and clean and autoclave contaminated instruments
- Communicate and coordinate with providers and Care Team regarding hospital discharges, emergency visits, consultations, community resources, disease management, education, labs, testing, and specialist visits
- Attend departmental meetings and participate in problem resolution and procedure analysis
- Maintain vaccine temperature logs, inventory, medical supply ordering, medication disposal, and room stocking
- Perform administrative tasks including check-in, check-out, and office opening and closing procedures
- Bring improvement suggestions to Practice Managers and Providers
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Assist front staff as needed
- Attend required training and perform other related duties
- Assist with procedures and manage changing responsibilities between back and front office
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma required
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred
- Two years’ experience in a similar healthcare setting preferred
- Customer service experience strongly preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or certification within 60 days of hire through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as assigned
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours
- Continual use of fingers for patient care, writing, and computer entry
- Ability to use upper extremities routinely and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Ability to push a supply cart up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Ability to push a wheelchair with a patient weighing up to 325 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level
- Ability to hear normal conversation and demonstrate good general, near, and peripheral vision
- Submit full legal name, current home address, and employment history for the past seven years
