About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Greet patients and direct them to and from operatories
Ensure X-rays are current and diagnostically adequate; take X-rays and Cone-Beam CT scans as needed
Room patients and complete intake, including vital signs and medical history updates
Verify pharmacy information and current medications
Set up, stock, clean, and disinfect operatories and clinical areas
Assist oral surgeons with clinical procedures, patient monitoring, IV removal, and surgery preparation
Complete pre-operative and post-operative checklists
Update Sedation Narrator with vital signs and medication administration
Monitor patients during surgery and recovery, addressing comfort and concerns
Provide post-operative instructions and escalate medical issues or complications
Assist with procedure and diagnosis coding
Create treatment plans and obtain patient review and signature
Schedule surgical procedures, follow-up appointments, and multi-visit treatment sequences
Recognize and respond to dental and medical emergencies
Maintain surgical, infection-control, and medical-gas inventories
Process regulated waste and prepare instruments for sterilization
Operate and maintain ultrasonic cleaners and autoclaves; perform weekly spore tests and maintain sterilization logs
Answer clinical calls, return voicemails, triage concerns, schedule emergency appointments, and escalate urgent issues
Monitor and respond to the clinical in-basket and escalate messages beyond triage scope
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

High School degree or equivalent required
DAANCE (Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification) required
Current BLS/CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Current X-Ray certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Three years’ experience in an oral surgery office or dental office preferred
Customer service experience strongly preferred
Graduating from an accredited American Dental Association program and/or coursework in dental instruments and procedures strongly preferred
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours
Ability to lift items up to 25 pounds occasionally
Ability to push supply carts up to 30 pounds occasionally
Ability to push a wheelchair with a patient weighing up to 325 pounds occasionally
Ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level regularly
Hearing sufficient for normal conversation and taking blood pressure readings
General, near, and peripheral vision required
Must provide employment history for the past seven years
