About the role
- Leads all aspects of operational workflows, resources, standards, policies, and procedures related to the decontamination, inspection, high level disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of inventoried items within the system.
- Conducts ongoing review of Regional Sterile Processing policies, procedures, and guidelines; implements revisions as necessary.
- Continually assesses all services, identifies problems, utilizes data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions.
- Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, and safety.
- Develops and implements clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost and complication reduction, and the implementation of evidence-based medicine.
- Incorporates the use of evidence-based practice and appreciative enquiry into program development and improvement activities.
- Provide Regional oversight for Sterile Processing standard work, processes, policies, and procedures.
- Responsible for coordination of Regional Sterile Processing leaders.
- Assesses manager and staff development needs, identifies goals and provides resources.
- Accountable for departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, vendor relations, and quality and process compliance of all sterilization activities throughout the health system.
- Directs and provides guidance to managers to effectively allocate resources based on patient volume, space availability, budget constraints, and program priorities, goals, and objectives.
- Maintain records related to operations and services that are complete, accurate, available, and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
- Works collaboratively with regional leadership, Peri-Op management, surgeons, Infection Prevention and Control, facilities, biomed, and other appropriate leadership, and committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent years of experience and education
- Seven years' experience, with five years in direct people management/leadership
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- Constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. Frequent reaching and gripping. Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs. Occasional use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Rare crawling, sitting and keyboard use/data entry.
