About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Monitor email security platforms, alerts, quarantines, abuse mailboxes, and user-reported phishing submissions
Investigate phishing, business email compromise, malware, spam, impersonation, account takeover, and suspicious email activity
Analyze email headers, sender reputation, authentication results, URLs, attachments, domains, and message content
Search for and remediate malicious messages across affected user mailboxes
Block malicious senders, domains, URLs, attachments, and other indicators of compromise
Administer and tune Proofpoint, Abnormal Security, and related email protection policies
Review quarantined messages and determine whether to release, block, or escalate them
Investigate user-reported phishing messages and provide disposition and feedback
Support phishing simulations, security awareness initiatives, and targeted user education
Monitor SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and other email authentication controls
Assist with compromised-account, forwarding-rule, unusual-mailbox-activity, and unauthorized-access investigations
Coordinate investigations with Security Operations, Identity and Access Management, Incident Response, Microsoft 365, Legal, Human Resources, and business teams
Document findings, remediation actions, attack patterns, and lessons learned
Create and maintain procedures, response playbooks, block lists, allow lists, and documentation
Track email security metrics and emerging attack trends
Identify automation opportunities for investigation, containment, and reporting
Support email security projects, platform upgrades, policy changes, mergers and acquisitions, and domain or business-unit onboarding
Recommend improvements to strengthen the organization’s email security posture

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience or knowledge with Proofpoint and Abnormal Security email security technologies
Knowledge of email threat types, including phishing, business email compromise, malware, spam, impersonation, and fraudulent communications
Ability to analyze email headers, sender reputation, authentication results, URLs, attachments, domains, and message content
Knowledge of SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and email authentication controls
Ability to investigate compromised accounts, suspicious forwarding rules, unusual mailbox activity, and unauthorized email access
No travel required
Successful completion of a background check and drug screen, as permitted by law
