About the role
- Build the First Line of Defense
- Design and implement fraud detection and prevention processes across the product
- Develop and operationalize a risk scoring system for users, wallets, and organizations — based on behavior, metadata, and on-chain signals
- Work with engineering to embed automated checks and controls directly into the platform.
- Establish risk ownership across teams — define clear accountability, escalation paths, and reporting
- Develop Core Risk Frameworks
- Identify and assess key operational, counterparty, and fraud risks
- Create right-sized risk policies and playbooks that fit a startup, not a bank
- Define and track key risk indicators (KRIs) to detect emerging issues early
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for major risk events
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally
- Partner with product, data, and compliance to make risk management part of everyday decisions
- Turn technical data into clear insights and priorities for leadership
- Build a pragmatic risk culture — disciplined but never bureaucratic
- Expand the Risk Program Over Time
- Extend the framework to cover counterparty, market, and other risks as we scale
- Define risk appetite and tolerance levels aligned with company goals
- Prepare Squads for future audits, partnerships, and regulatory readiness
Requirements
- 5+ years in risk, fraud, or compliance — ideally in fintech, crypto, or financial services
- Experience building or scaling risk systems from scratch
- Strong analytical and technical fluency — comfortable working with engineers and data pipelines
- Understanding of crypto transactions, wallet behavior, and blockchain risk tooling
- Excellent judgment, communication, and ability to influence across teams
- A bias for action — you’re not here to write policies no one reads
