Machine Operator – 2nd Shift
SPX TechnologiesMachine Operator setting up and operating various machines to build core components for products. Working in electric heating and ventilation solutions with an emphasis on quality and precision in a factory setting.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and NC/CNC machinery such as lathes, mills, grinders, shapers, and drill presses
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, manuals, and sketches to determine machining steps, tolerances, and dimensions
- Mark, measure, and prepare materials using layout tools to guide precision machining
- Install and align fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories for proper operation
- Calculate machining parameters and enter control settings or CNC commands to ensure accuracy
- Monitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to address malfunctions or tolerance issues
- Perform in-process and final part inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments
- Assemble machined components into finished assemblies, ensuring correct alignment and function
- Conduct trial runs and test parts to validate machine setup and programming accuracy
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve design or machining issues
- Use welding equipment to fabricate or repair metal components (as needed)
Requirements
What you’ll need- One to three months related experience and/or training in machining or mechanical work experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and use measurement tools
- Basic math and spatial reasoning skills
- Completion of coursework in machining, manufacturing technology, or related technical program
- Familiarity with CNC programming or editing
- Welding experience or certification
- Experience developing or using jigs, fixtures, and shop aids
