About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Handle original research papers and work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process
Assess manuscripts and perform critical scientific evaluation
Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in light of expert advice
Determine the representation of the subject in the journal
Liaise with editors at other Nature family journals and experts in the international scientific community
Engage with the external editorial board, including guiding and assisting external editors
Recruit and train new editorial board members
Attend conferences and visit research institutions
Commission and edit reviews
Write editorials
Report to the Deputy Editor of Nature Progress Brain Health
Collaborate closely with Nature Communications

Requirements

What you’ll need

PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the brain
Additional research experience is valuable but not necessary
Thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field
Passion for science and thirst to learn more
Broad interest in scientific research within and beyond one's speciality
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Fluent in English, written and spoken
Ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of research from different areas of the discipline
Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide
Candidates from clinical and translational neuroscience are welcome
Experience in neuroimaging and/or machine learning applications in neurology is especially of interest
Editorial experience is not required, though significant editorial experience may support consideration for Senior Editor positions
CV and covering letter required, including preferred office of employment
