About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Shape, build, and improve Springer Nature’s unified platforms and integrated capabilities
  • Develop and improve platforms, including maintenance, documentation, updates, and security work
  • Drive the Platform-First Strategy and prioritise Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Improve platform usability, performance, and security
  • Meet delivery and participation responsibilities as an engineering team contributor
  • Build, operate, and maintain core Engineering Platform capabilities and components
  • Treat the platform as a product with real customers
  • Build automation, tooling, and self-service mechanisms for product teams
  • Own and operate platform services end to end, including Kubernetes clusters, automation, CI/CD, and observability systems
  • Provide technical support and consultancy to product teams and feed learnings into the product roadmap
  • Contribute to platform improvements and architectural discussions
  • Lead major initiatives and improve system performance and reliability
  • Shape the evolution of the Engineering Platform and support scalable, low-risk business delivery
  • Participate in user research and provide actionable feedback to team members
  • Help grow internal culture through technical share-backs and 10% time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience operating, automating, and maintaining cloud infrastructure in AWS or GCP
  • Experience contributing to system architecture and design
  • Expertise in at least one of storage, routing, cloud networking, organization policy automation, or IAM
  • Programming experience with Golang, Python, JVM-based languages, or similar modern languages
  • Experience with general automation patterns and version control
  • Experience managing Kubernetes deployments
  • Experience writing Kubernetes operators or controllers
  • Experience taking projects from design through production
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams across the software delivery lifecycle
  • Experience writing and maintaining code interfacing with the Kubernetes API is desirable
  • Thorough understanding of Go language features and idiomatic practices is desirable
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Kubevela, GKE, EKS, Grafana LGTM, Sentry, OpenTelemetry, Concourse, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible, Postgres, or Mongo is desirable
  • Experience building APIs and exposing programmable components is desirable
