About the role
- Spindrift: maker of sparkling water and beverages using real squeezed fruit, headquartered in Newton, MA.
- Accounting Supervisor provides oversight of Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and payroll, with leadership and finance operations growth responsibilities.
- Lead and manage a team of four (two AP, two AR), including weekly 1:1 meetings to support development and priorities.
- Oversee end-to-end Accounts Payable process: vendor onboarding, invoice entry, coding, approvals, and timely payment execution.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of vendor payments, resolve discrepancies, and maintain vendor relationships.
- Collaborate with IT, Procurement, and Accounting to troubleshoot and improve invoice processing efficiency.
- Monitor aging reports, unapplied credits, and duplicate payments; implement corrective actions.
- Support AR team in issuing credit memos, applying cash, and reconciling outstanding balances.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve AP and AR processes to meet internal policies and audit requirements.
- Assist with month-end close by preparing reconciliations and supporting schedules related to AP and AR.
- Train and onboard new team members and identify ongoing training opportunities.
- Serve as primary point of contact for internal and external AP/AR inquiries.
- Manage and process bi-weekly payroll for U.S.-based employees (~200 and growing); own payroll calendar and ensure timely processing and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws across the continental United States; research and resolve complex payroll and tax issues.
- Maintain accurate payroll records, oversee payroll system configuration and reporting, and partner with HR and Benefits teams.
- Stay current on payroll laws and partner with Finance and external advisors on payroll tax filings and audits; support financial audits.
- Support Finance leadership with AP, AR, and payroll-related GL entries and reconciliations; collaborate with HR on compensation changes, bonuses, and terminations.
- Help design scalable processes for payroll, time tracking, and compliance reporting.
- Working condition: must be able to work from Newton, MA office at least 4 days a week.
Requirements
- 5+ Years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting and payroll administration including oversight of AP and AR staff
- Demonstrated ability to perform research on emerging payroll topics and new state requirements.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, growth-stage company environment.
- Comfortable taking ownership and implementing new processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Familiarity with accounting systems (NetSuite preferred, but not required).
- Experience with payroll systems (Engage, Paylocity, Paycom, etc.).
- Highly proficient with Excel and Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of U.S. payroll tax laws, wage and hour laws, and payroll best practices is a plus.
