About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Independently perform or assist in dissection, description, and histologic sampling of surgical specimens under Pathologist supervision
  • Assure appropriate specimen accession and obtain clinical history as indicated
  • Describe anatomic features and dissect specimens for histologic processing
  • Obtain biological specimens for analysis and perform special procedures, including tumor triage, coronary artery perfusion, and faxitron
  • Photograph pertinent gross specimens and microscopic slides
  • Maintain surgical pathology protocols, reports, files, photographic slides, and microscopic slides; assure coding completion
  • Assist with preparation, performance, and documentation of human postmortem examinations
  • Participate in the corporate Quality Management Committee
  • Troubleshoot problem cases and assist Pathologists in producing accurate diagnoses
  • Maintain department staffing schedules
  • Develop, conduct, and maintain staff training programs
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor in Laboratory Science
  • Completion of a Pathologists Assistant program accredited by the American Society for Clinical Pathology
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant
  • Ability to independently perform or assist with surgical specimen dissection, description, and histologic sampling
  • Ability to obtain biological specimens for analysis and perform special procedures
  • Ability to maintain surgical pathology protocols, reports, and coding
  • Ability to assist with human postmortem examinations
  • Ability to troubleshoot problem cases and support accurate diagnoses
  • Ability to maintain staffing schedules and develop staff training programs
  • Ability to conduct performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions
  • Availability for Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule
  • Ability to work 40 scheduled hours weekly
