About the role
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities and locations
- Lead monthly and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and account reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and corporate policies across all accounting functions
- Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering professional development and operational excellence
- Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business decision-making
- Lead special projects including system implementations, process improvements, acquisition accounting, international accounting, and new business ventures
- Partner with operations teams on new studio openings and accounting setup requirements
- Lead the annual audit processes with big four external auditors
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls documentation
- Report to the VP Accounting & Controller and support cross-functional strategic initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA license
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, particularly revenue recognition (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Proven track record of leading month-end close processes and managing tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent leadership and team management capabilities
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software and systems including Alteryx
- Must be local to the Arlington/DMV area
- Multi-location retail, or membership-based business experience (preferred)
- NetSuite and Workday experience (preferred)
- Public accounting experience (preferred)
- Experience in fitness, wellness, consumer services, restaurant or brick-and-mortar retail industry (preferred)
- Private equity or investor-backed company experience (preferred)
- Experience with complex corporate structures and intercompany accounting (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and statutory reporting requirements (preferred)
- Project management experience with system implementations or process improvements (preferred)
