About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Negotiate and drive strategic transactions and sales/revenue agreements for public sector customers
- Support compliance with Canadian and international contracting laws, rules, and regulations
- Create company policies related to contracting and train employees
- Provide day-to-day advice to senior executives and business members on contracting issues
- Assist business leaders in evaluating and managing risk
- Apply legal and business judgment to complex public sector transactions
- Lead negotiation of high-value strategic technology and services agreements
- Partner with Sales and leadership to structure transactions, anticipate issues, navigate ambiguity, and resolve contracting matters
- Resolve issues in existing relationships
- Handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
- Report directly to the Chief Counsel – Public Sector
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (or equivalent)
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Minimum of 7–10 years’ progressive experience in a related field
- Lawyer qualified to practice in at least one Canadian Province or Territory
- Law degree from a reputable law school
- Licensed Attorney, varying by Province/Territory
- Substantive legal knowledge of Canadian public sector procurement rules and regulations, technology contracts, licensing, data privacy and security, and intellectual property
- Experience with public sector technology transactions and procurement rules and regulations in jurisdictions in addition to Canada would be beneficial
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance
- Active Canadian government security clearance (Reliability Status or higher) preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Sound and pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Attentive to detail, a good communicator, and an active listener
- Criminal record check, education verification, and reference checks required before starting
