About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Must know detail specifications and limitations of equipment being operated.
- Drives truck to and from work site.
- Operates winch, derrick, hole digger, trencher and backhoe and all other accessory equipment.
- Reports needed equipment repairs and the need for additional tools.
- Maintain acceptable levels of standard materials on truck.
- Maintain adequate first aid equipment and properly operating fire extinguisher on truck.
- Ground vehicle in accordance with Cooperative's safety policy at site.
- Refuels equipment and inspects for DOT standards.
- Assist with ground work while linemen are performing their duties.
- Assist in installing splices on de-energized U/G secondary and primary conductors.
- Use derrick truck or trencher in the orderly and safe placement of pole mounted and urd pads or equipment.
- Assist in terminating U/G cables in transformers.
- Assist in the installation of streetlights and related equipment.
- Assist in framing and setting of poles.
- Perform necessary task to accomplish digging and placement of anchors.
- Assist in pulling guys.
- Drive ground rods.
- Load and unload transformers and other material.
- Assist in patrolling lines during outages.
- Assist in safe roadside work zone set up.
- Ability to visually identify other utility’s placement and identifying markers.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be able to operate heavy equipment (digger, trencher, bucket, etc.)
- Must have knowledge of first aid and CPR
- Valid Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification required
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
