About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in maintaining acceptable levels of standard materials on truck
  • Assist in all ground work while linemen are performing their duties
  • Assist in installing splices on de-energized U/G secondary and primary conductors
  • Assist in placement of U/G transformers and pads
  • Assist in terminating U/G cables in transformers
  • Assist in the installation of streetlights and related equipment
  • Assist in framing and setting of poles
  • Assist in digging anchors and pulling wires
  • Safe operation of chain saws and basic Right of Way skills
  • Drive ground rods
  • Place primary and secondary in trench in the construction of an U/G service or subdivision
  • Spot/locate other utilities while digging
  • Load/unload transformers and other material
  • Check voltage in meter base and service stubs using voltmeter
  • Assist in patrolling lines during outages
  • Assist in safe roadside work zone set up
  • Identify visually other utility’s placement and identifying markers
  • Start development of knowledge of electrical system hazard recognition
  • Start development of knowledge of safe construction work practices
  • Required to climb poles periodically for training purposes only and perform Bucket Truck Rescue
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License
  • High school education or GED
  • One-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Read/interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Understand and carry out detailed instructions
  • Speak effectively with customers or other employees
  • Know CPR and basic first aid
  • Work overtime as needed
  • Obtain Georgia Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification within 12 months
