About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support development, design, and construction of SMUD's largest solar and battery facility to date
  • Gain familiarity with the project development process
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering design submittal reviews
  • Facilitate and document project milestones
  • Perform site visits as needed with a mentor
  • Perform technical engineering reviews
  • Learn professional writing and critique protocols
  • Manage technical meetings in person and via web conference technology
  • Develop and complete an Internship Work Portfolio demonstrating exposure and expertise around power-generating assets
  • Perform analytical and research tasks for STEM projects and assignments
  • Locate information sources and collect and organize data
  • Make computations and analyze data for confidence levels and alternative courses of action
  • Potentially develop computer programs and code material for established programs
  • Develop written, graphical, and oral reports
  • Assist staff analysts and technical personnel under close supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Registration as a full-time student, minimum 12 units, at an accredited college or university
  • Declared curriculum with a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) emphasis
  • Enrollment and maintenance of full-time student status
  • Completion and passage of at least 12 undergraduate units or 8 graduate units
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA in the semester/quarter prior to employment and for the duration of the internship
  • Sophomore standing or above
  • Electrical, mechanical, civil, or I&C engineering major preferred; related majors considered case-by-case
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to collaborate in a team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to commute to SMUD Offices in Sacramento, CA when requested
  • Must not have relatives working at SMUD
  • Must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future
  • Applicants must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
