About the role
- Own Pure Storage and VMware operations in VMware vSphere/ESXi environments (VMFS and vVols), including host groups, volume provisioning, and nondisruptive upgrades under change control.
- Design snapshot and replication policies using Protection Groups, SafeMode snapshots, and ActiveCluster/ActiveDR aligned to application RPO/RTO targets.
- Troubleshoot across ESXi, SAN fabric (FC/iSCSI), and array telemetry (latency, queue depth, multipathing/MPIO, noisy neighbor conditions).
- Integrate and operate Veeam for backup and rapid recovery; enable storage integration with FlashArray snapshots and coordinate application-aware processing.
- Architect and maintain repositories (Linux hardened preferred), SOBR, proxies, transport modes, backup copy and offsite tiers; implement immutability and ransomware resilience.
- Deliver rapid recovery using Instant VM Recovery, storage-level snapshots, SureBackup labs, and full-scale restore tests.
- Administer Azure cloud services: Azure RBAC, PIM, Recovery Services Vaults, monitoring/Log Analytics, Enterprise App SSO (SAML/OAuth), Azure Files/Blob.
- Manage and support hybrid environments: Active Directory (FSMO roles, DNS, GPO), VMware vSphere host and storage integration, SAN/NAS administration.
- Manage DNS and email integrations (GoDaddy, Cloudflare) and RMM/patching workflows (ConnectWise RMM, Syxsense).
- Operate with MSP discipline and life sciences context; execute ITIL v4 workflows and produce client-ready PIRs and audit artifacts aligned to NIST CSF recovery functions.
- Capacity planning, monitoring (Pure1, vCenter) and automation using Pure REST API and PowerShell for provisioning, snapshot rotation, replication failover tests, and evidence reports.
Requirements
- 4+ years in a Microsoft cloud-focused infrastructure role.
- 4+ years in VMware vSphere and hybrid storage environments.
- 4+ years hands-on with Pure Storage FlashArray in production.
- Practical Veeam Backup & Replication experience (repositories, SOBR, proxies, transport modes, application-aware processing, Instant VM Recovery, SureBackup).
- Proficiency with Purity OS and Pure1, SafeMode snapshots, Protection Groups, and replication patterns (synchronous, near-sync, async).
- Solid fundamentals in iSCSI and Fibre Channel (zoning, HBA configuration, MPIO).
- Scripting capability in PowerShell or Python for day-to-day automation and reporting.
- 2+ years supporting GxP or other regulated client environments.
- Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service workflows (incident, change, problem); comfortable participating in on-call rotations and major incident response.
- Minimum Certification: Microsoft AZ-104 and VMware VCP.
- Preferred: Microsoft AZ-305 (or must commit to obtain within 6 months), Microsoft SC-300, Pure Storage certifications.
- Tool experience: Azure Portal, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Purity and Pure1, Veeam Backup & Replication, VMware vCenter, ITGlue, ServiceNow, ConnectWise RMM, LogicMonitor, Syxsense.
