About the role
- Build, lead, and retain a high-performing team with strong ownership and accountability.
- Establish predictable delivery through effective planning, estimation, and execution.
- Ensure teams consistently deliver high-quality features aligned with product priorities.
- Improve engineering velocity while maintaining or raising quality standards.
- Partner with Staff/Principal Engineers to guide system design and architectural decisions.
- Ensure engineering best practices across code quality, testing, reviews, and documentation.
- Drive pragmatic technical decision-making that balances speed, quality, and maintainability.
- Actively manage and reduce technical debt.
- Own sprint, quarterly, and roadmap execution for your team(s).
- Improve and standardise agile rituals (planning, retrospectives, stand-ups).
- Define and track delivery metrics (cycle time, throughput, reliability).
- Proactively surface risks, trade-offs, and dependencies.
- Partner closely with Product Managers to shape roadmaps and delivery plans.
- Communicate clearly with leadership on progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Align engineering execution with company-level goals and priorities.
- Coach engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and career development plans.
- Set clear expectations around performance, behaviours, and growth.
- Hire and onboard engineers who raise the bar technically and culturally.
- Create a psychologically safe, inclusive, and high-trust team environment.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a software engineer (ideally full stack react/javascript/typescript).
- 2+ years experience managing and leading engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of modern full-stack systems in production.
- Experience delivering customer-facing products at scale.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with Product and Design.
- Hands-on experience with agile delivery and engineering best practices.
- Experience hiring, coaching, and performance-managing engineers.
- Ability to make sound technical and people decisions under ambiguity.
