About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Be part of a team supporting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) by disseminating data to researchers who are studying ways to improve the quality and reduce the cost of care provided to chronically ill Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
  • Ingest, validate, and document data from new sources to ensure quality, consistency, and usability within the broader Medicare and Medicaid data ecosystem.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance to stakeholders, answering data questions from a variety of federal researchers and healthcare analysts.
  • Provide technical writing and revision of existing output review guidelines.
  • Write and maintain production-quality code in Python, R, or SAS to clean, transform, and analyze healthcare data at scale.
  • Review analytic specifications and outputs to ensure alignment with business rules and research requirements.
  • Communicate and coordinate output reviews with team members and helpdesk and respond to researcher inquiries.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, public health, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of work experience, preferably within the healthcare or government data sector.
  • Strong skills in SQL and hands-on experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Working knowledge of SAS, R, Stata, Python, or SQL, especially for manipulating and examining large administrative health data files.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to spot patterns, inconsistencies, or data issues that others might miss.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; you’ll be working with both technical teams and policy-focused stakeholders.
