About the role
- Lead the DevOps team within the SRE organization, managing a team of four to five engineers (including yourself) and acting as technical lead and mentor
- Spend approximately two-thirds of time on technical work and the rest on people management responsibilities
- Set the team’s strategy, architect, develop, plan and deliver high-quality solutions
- Maintain and optimize software deployment and release processes used by product development teams to enable scaling
- Design, implement, and maintain staging infrastructure and a suite of remote development tools to improve engineering efficiency
- Continuously improve the observability and reliability of CI/CD pipelines and all associated systems
- Finalize migrating applications to AWS with a focus on modernizing and optimizing cloud resource utilization
- Collaborate with the broader SRE team to run effective post-mortems and implement preventive solutions to strengthen system reliability
- Hold regular one-on-one meetings with team members to guide growth and career development
Requirements
- Solid background as a DevOps engineer or SRE or a similar position (5+ years)
- Prior experience leading a team (2+ years)
- Experience building and operating developer tools and workflows (GitHub Actions, Gitlab CI or similar)
- Expertise in designing and maintaining containerized environments for production, leveraging Docker and Kubernetes for high availability and scalability
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools and best practices with one or more IaC tools (Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, etc)
- Solid experience with one of the major IaaS providers, such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Azure (at Skroutz we favor AWS)
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
- Desire to troubleshoot, optimize and build software tools
- Familiarity managing Linux systems
- A self-driven and solution-oriented attitude
- Ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve individual and company goals
- Lead-by-example mentality with good communication and interpersonal skills
- Being open to receive & share constructive feedback, sharing knowledge and helping other team members through code reviews and mentoring sessions
- Effective communication and writing skills with a strong tendency to "document as you go"
- Curiosity - drives innovation and continuous learning, helps us stay agile, improve our products, and better serve our users
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field ( appreciated )
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Go, or Ruby being a plus)
- Experience with designing and troubleshooting large systems with many components
- Familiarity with database technologies (MariaDB, MongoDB, Elasticsearch)
- Contributions to open-source projects; sharing contributions or personal projects will help during the evaluation process
