About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the architecture, technical strategy, operational health, and evolution of the AWS-based middleware platform
Lead TypeScript and Node.js middleware services and Serverless deployment patterns
Ensure middleware availability, observability, resilience, scalability, and peak-traffic readiness
Drive performance testing, capacity planning, caching, failure recovery, and scalability-risk remediation
Establish standards for API design, asynchronous processing, data access, fault tolerance, retries, graceful degradation, and reliability
Own Shopify Storefront and Admin API integrations
Oversee Sanity CMS integrations, content modeling, validation, and GROQ data retrieval
Promote Zod schema validation and data integrity practices
Establish automated testing standards using Jest and ts-jest
Drive observability and incident response using Sentry
Oversee Flutter and Dart mobile engineering, architecture, performance, reliability, and maintainability
Manage mobile release processes, app-store submissions, approvals, rollouts, forced updates, and production monitoring through Apple App Store and Google Play Store
Lead, mentor, and develop engineers and engineering leaders across Middleware and Mobile
Establish standards for architecture, code quality, testing, observability, documentation, and operational readiness
Partner with Product, Design, QA, Web Engineering, Data, Infrastructure, Security, and other cross-functional teams
Shape product and technical roadmaps and communicate technical topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Identify technical risks and drive proactive remediation while balancing speed with long-term platform health

Requirements

What you’ll need

Significant engineering leadership experience managing high-performing software engineering teams
Strong hands-on background in modern backend and distributed systems
Deep experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures
Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, APIs, and service-oriented architectures
Experience designing and scaling systems supporting significant traffic and transaction volumes
Experience preparing platforms for high-traffic events, peak demand, or rapid traffic spikes
Strong understanding of reliability engineering, monitoring, caching, performance optimization, incident response, and fault-tolerant architecture
Experience maintaining and modernizing large production codebases while delivering new capabilities
Experience leading mobile engineering teams or working closely with native mobile platforms
Familiarity with Flutter/Dart strongly preferred
Strong architectural judgment and ability to make pragmatic technical decisions quickly
Experience working closely with Product and Design organizations in a fast-moving environment
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
Native mobile experience with iOS development using Swift or Objective-C and Android development using Kotlin or Java is a strong plus
