About the role

  • Draw the boundaries: Identify seams, design contracts (APIs/queues/adapters), and strangler-fig subsystems out of PHP\n
  • Keep it stable: Maintain a complex and beloved PHP 7.4 system in production\n
  • Build the replacement: Pair with our TypeScript team to implement new services, migrate data/flows, and retire PHP components\n
  • Tech: TypeScript, MySQL, Redis, AWS, Kubernetes, Temporal, GitHub, Grafana\n
  • AI helpers: Cursor, Claude Code, Codex\n
  • Have 5+ years backend experience with 3+ in PHP on large systems\n
  • Have shipped a migration or can show equivalent systems thinking\n
  • Are an exceptional debugger who can isolate root causes in unfamiliar code, use logs/profilers well, and land fixes with minimal guidance\n
  • Want to spend increasing time in TypeScript as PHP disappears\n
  • Want only greenfield work\n
  • Need perfect specs before you start\n
  • Prefer polishing code over retiring code\n
  • Ship often, own outcomes, debate ideas not egos, delete code that no longer serves us\n
  • Mentorship, pairing, and a clear path to TypeScript ownership post-cutover\n
