About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, and test software for embedded Android-based products
  • Build custom Android OS (AOSP) images with SoC BSP and HAL integrations
  • Write, optimize, and maintain low-level C/C++ native code, JNI bindings, and custom Android HALs
  • Build system services, background processes, and high-performance applications in Kotlin and Java
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues involving memory leaks, thread contention, power consumption, boot-time optimization, and driver interactions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to design and implement professional audio products and technologies
  • Estimate, organize, and document tasks
  • Practice software development methodologies focused on maintainability, reusability, separation of concerns, cohesion, and coupling
  • Model designs using UML and develop use cases for real-time systems
  • Architect maintainable system designs
  • Review peer engineers' designs and code
  • Mentor junior and entry-level staff members
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 4 years of embedded software development experience, including at least 2 years focused on Embedded Android/AOSP
  • Understanding of software design, analysis, and programming using C++ and/or C, Java, and Kotlin
  • Strong expertise in Modern C++11/14/17
  • Deep proficiency in Java and Kotlin for framework and system service development
  • Hands-on experience with AOSP build systems: Soong, Ninja, Android.bp, and Android.mk
  • Experience with Android HAL architecture, including HIDL/AIDL
  • Experience with system services and Linux kernel drivers/interfaces
  • Experience using Android NDK, JNI development, and IPC mechanisms such as Binder, Sockets, and Shared Memory
  • Proficiency with Git, Linux command-line tools, Android Studio, ADB, GDB, Valgrind, and Systrace/Perfetto
  • Experience applying SOLID and object-oriented design principles
  • Expertise debugging with protocol analyzers and Wireshark
  • Experience with software version control and release
  • Ability to analyze complex interdependent variables and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead junior engineers
  • Quality consciousness
  • Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States
  • Shure will not sponsor work visas
  • Bonus: custom ARM board bring-up experience; UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO, USB, and Bluetooth/BLE; embedded-device automated testing and hardware/AOSP CI/CD; Android security architectures
