About the role
- Handle inbound pharmacy calls and conduct proactive outbound refill and engagement calls in English and Spanish
- Educate and guide patients through the end-to-end medication refill process
- Coordinate prescription refills, including data entry and pharmacy claim adjudication
- Perform prescription status checks and resolve adjudication or coverage issues
- Serve as a liaison between patients, pharmacists, clinicians, payors, and internal support teams
- Communicate with pharmacists and clinicians to clarify prescriptions and resolve discrepancies
- Identify medications requiring special handling (e.g., refrigerated or hazardous) and ensure proper protocols
- Accurately document and maintain patient, prescription, and communication records across multiple systems
- Identify repeat issues and trends, escalating opportunities for workflow or process improvement
- Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and healthcare privacy standards
- Participate in ongoing training, quality assurance activities, and professional development
- Maintain schedule flexibility to support health system partner needs
Requirements
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required
- Active State Pharmacy Technician registration (obtainable with national certification)
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–3 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred, particularly in:
- Medication refill management
- Pharmacy claim adjudication and insurance troubleshooting
- Specialty pharmacy or complex therapies
- Collaboration with clinical care teams
- Remote, call center, or high-volume pharmacy environments (strong plus)
- Fluency in both English and Spanish (spoken and written) is required
- Ability to communicate complex healthcare and medication information clearly and compassionately in both languages
- Experience supporting diverse or underserved patient populations preferred
- Exceptional phone presence and patient communication skills
- Comfortable with proactive outbound patient engagement
- Strong collaboration skills across clinical, pharmacy, and payor teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to quickly learn new systems, platforms, and workflows
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and multitasking abilities
