About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders, RTUs, and communication processors
Functionally test protection and control circuitry for transmission lines, HV bus, transformers, circuit breakers, feeders, reactors, and capacitor banks
Perform RTU and telecom upgrades for clients
Review, document, and submit test reports for client reporting and regulatory purposes
Interpret one-line, three-line, wiring, schematic, and communication configuration diagrams and identify discrepancies
Complete time and expense reports
Perform P&C procedures, relay testing, test plan building, function testing, end-to-end testing, and protection scheme troubleshooting
Communicate with clients about daily testing activities, schedules, roadblocks, and material/testing issues
Test and check out RTU/SCADA points, including analogs, commands, and statuses
Travel extensively to client work locations and work overtime as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience with SEL microprocessor relays, including 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787
Experience with RTUs and communication processors from GE, Telvent, SEL, Cooper, and Novatech
Experience with P&C procedures, relay testing, test plan building, function testing, end-to-end testing, and protection scheme troubleshooting
Experience with drawings and relay settings
Ability to test and prove RTU/SCADA points, including analogs, commands, and statuses
Ability to read, interpret, and identify discrepancies in one-line, three-line, wiring, schematic, and communication configuration diagrams
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
Ability to pass a fit-for-duty physical exam when required
Must pass pre-employment and periodic unannounced drug tests
Must pass a pre-employment background check with a seven-year history
Valid driver's license and minimum motor vehicle insurability standards
Must take and pass 30-hour OSHA training
Ability to work in a field environment with changing outdoor conditions
Willingness to work overtime and travel extensively
Must read, write, and speak English fluently
