About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work as a collaborative member of the oncology healthcare team to provide information and support to families affected with familial cancers.
- Identify families at risk, investigate disease present in the family, interpret and communicate information about the disorder, and analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence.
- Provide supportive counseling to families, serve as a patient advocate and refer individuals to community and state supportive services.
- Serve as an educator and resource for other healthcare professionals and for the general public.
- Participate in research activities related to the field of medical and oncology genetics and genetic counseling.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's Degree Genetic Counseling conferred by a GC program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) is required within 90 days of hire
- California Genetic Counselor License - CA Department of Public Health -REQUIRED
- California Temporary Genetic Counselor License - CA Department of Public Health -REQUIRED
- Clinical experience in genetic counseling for cancer susceptibility
- Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) - American Board of Genetic Counseling -PREFERRED
- Must be eligible for Board certification by the ABGC.
- The ABGC Genetic Counselor License is required within 1 year of hire date.
