About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review residential mortgage loan files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency, originator, and/or investor guidelines
  • Identify conditions and findings; review trailing documents as needed
  • Ensure required documents are present and properly executed, including the Final Closing Disclosure, Note, Mortgage/Deed of Trust, Application, and other closing documentation
  • Detect and resolve errors or discrepancies that may affect loan sale or insurability
  • Calculate income, debts, DTI, DSCR, and assets; review entity documentation on borrowing entities
  • Perform quality control checks and contribute to continuous process improvement
  • Support audit preparation and respond to findings from investors or regulatory bodies
  • Stay current on mortgage industry guidelines, regulatory changes, and investor overlays
  • Maintain working knowledge of internal systems; test updates and revisions as needed
  • Review residential mortgage loans for Setpoint/inTENT, which provides operational infrastructure and third-party review and diligence services for the residential lending industry

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience
  • 2+ years of secondary market underwriting experience
  • Knowledge of Operational Underwriting
  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's in Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent work experience accepted as an alternative to the required high school diploma
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Detail-oriented approach to maintaining complete loan files
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in a high-volume environment
  • Deep knowledge of agency, investor, and regulatory guidelines
  • Ability to articulate findings and discrepancies clearly in writing and conversation
  • Ability to adapt to changing guidelines and collaborate across functions
