About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review residential mortgage loan files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency, originator, and/or investor guidelines
- Identify conditions and findings; review trailing documents as needed
- Ensure required documents are present and properly executed, including the Final Closing Disclosure, Note, Mortgage/Deed of Trust, Application, and other closing documentation
- Detect and resolve errors or discrepancies that may affect loan sale or insurability
- Calculate income, debts, DTI, DSCR, and assets; review entity documentation on borrowing entities
- Perform quality control checks and contribute to continuous process improvement
- Support audit preparation and respond to findings from investors or regulatory bodies
- Stay current on mortgage industry guidelines, regulatory changes, and investor overlays
- Maintain working knowledge of internal systems; test updates and revisions as needed
- Review residential mortgage loans for Setpoint/inTENT, which provides operational infrastructure and third-party review and diligence services for the residential lending industry
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience
- 2+ years of secondary market underwriting experience
- Knowledge of Operational Underwriting
- High School Diploma required
- Associate's or Bachelor's in Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent work experience accepted as an alternative to the required high school diploma
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Proficiency in Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
- Detail-oriented approach to maintaining complete loan files
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities
- Ability to work quickly and accurately in a high-volume environment
- Deep knowledge of agency, investor, and regulatory guidelines
- Ability to articulate findings and discrepancies clearly in writing and conversation
- Ability to adapt to changing guidelines and collaborate across functions
