About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the development of AWS/Lambda features for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Loan Guaranty Service (LGY).
- Hands-on with developing and maintaining AWS Lambda functions that support the retrieval, transformation and processing of Veteran data.
- Debug Lambda execution errors and adjust transformation/translation logic.
- Validate API payload mappings and optimize error handling workflows.
- Support hotfix deployments and monitor Lambda execution logs.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Develop and maintain AWS Lambda functions supporting data retrieval and processing across LGY integrations.
- Implement and support API integrations with VA enterprise systems
- Build and maintain data transformation and mapping logic for downstream consumption in Salesforce.
- Troubleshoot and remediate production defects related to Lambda execution and integration workflows.
- Monitor and analyze CloudWatch logs and system metrics to identify errors and performance issues.
- Implement error handling, retry logic, and resilient processing patterns for API-driven workflows.
- Support AWS Step Functions orchestration for multi-step integration processes.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and support resolution of production incidents.
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to support deployments and system stability.
- Ensure solutions follow secure coding practices and VA OIT compliance requirements.
- Bachelor's degree + 5 years of AWS/Lambda or relevant software development experience, OR
- Associate’s degree + 7 years of AWS/Lambda or relevant software development experience, OR
- High School Diploma/GED + 9 years of AWS/Lambda or relevant software development experience.
- Ability to obtain VA Public Trust Clearance.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, CloudWatch, S3, and IAM.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- Experience developing and supporting API-driven integration architectures across multiple systems.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for automated deployments.
- Experience using logging and monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Splunk, Datadog, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of secure coding practices and cloud security standards aligned with NIST, FISMA, or FedRAMP.
- Experience troubleshooting distributed systems and serverless architectures.
- AWS Certification such as AWS Certified Developer, Solutions Architect, or SysOps Administrator.
