About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Help lead the UK month-end close and ensure accurate, complete and understood results
- Own Technical and Wholesale revenue and margin reporting, including actuals and variances to budget and forecast
- Prepare and review journals, perform variance analysis and provide business insight
- Own payroll journals and related reconciliations, liaising with HR and SD Worx
- Provide P&L and balance sheet variance commentary
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual Cognos reports to Group
- Complete intercompany reconciliations and netting submissions to Treasury
- Own IFRS 16 reporting
- Prepare, review and maintain balance sheet reconciliations in FloQast
- Operate, evidence and monitor key financial controls
- Act as day-to-day contact for external auditors
- Lead year-end statutory accounts preparation and the audit process
- Support free cash flow reporting and forecasting
- Support new ERP transition through data validation, process mapping and testing
- Drive reporting-cycle process improvement and automation
- Support annual budgeting and FP&A
- Deputise for the Head of Financial Control and handle ad hoc senior-management requests
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including leases (IFRS 16)
- Experience of month-end reporting and group reporting across multiple subsidiaries
- Understanding of balance sheet management, movements, cash and working capital
- Working knowledge of statutory accounts preparation and external audit processes
- Ability to identify control and process weaknesses and implement best practice
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent)
- Approximately 3–5 years' post-qualification experience
- Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven finance function
- Experience owning balance sheet reconciliations, including reviewing others' work
- Strong Excel skills, including lookups, SUMIFS and pivot tables
- Ability to apply systems knowledge to solve problems
- PowerPoint capability for reporting packs
- Accuracy, attention to detail, analytical and numerical ability
- Ability to explain financial results clearly to finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Organisation and ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines
- Ability to challenge processes and articulate improvements
- Sound business and commercial understanding
- Self-motivated team player adaptable to a fast-moving finance environment
