About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build a new AI-powered BI assistant from the ground up
Own the standalone project solo, from architecture decisions through to a working, deployed agent
Connect the assistant, likely Claude-based and using MCP, to BigQuery/dbt, Metabase, and GitHub
Enable the assistant to answer routine BI questions end to end and flag complex questions for human review
Score the assistant against real historical business questions for accuracy, run cost, and maintainability
Use evaluation results to guide development
Deploy the assistant to an internal pilot group
Work with the international data and development team within a hybrid working model
Attend fortnightly team meetings at offices near Old Street for whiteboarding, planning, and socialising

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong SQL and dbt experience
Hands-on experience building LLM/agent systems (Claude, MCP, or similar)
Comfortable working in Python for tooling and integration work
Ability to own a project solo, end to end
Experience contributing across architecture, evaluation, and deployment
Familiarity with Metabase or similar BI tools (preferred)
Experience with YAML-based BI/modelling tools (e.g. Bruin) (preferred)
Experience writing plugins, skills, or agents for LLMs such as Claude (preferred)
Experience building evaluation sets for LLM systems and assessing accuracy versus run cost (preferred)
Personal projects such as a blog, open source contributions, or side builds (preferred)
