About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions supporting Core Claims systems, including claims intake, adjudication, and payment processing across multiple markets
Build and enhance Java-based applications and services using established engineering standards and best practices
Develop, consume, and support RESTful APIs integrating internal and external systems with Core Claims platforms
Write, optimize, and maintain SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and data access logic
Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, quality engineers, and other engineers in an agile environment
Participate in code reviews for readability, maintainability, performance, and security
Support production applications by troubleshooting issues, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing fixes
Contribute to technical modernization, process improvements, and adoption of new tools or patterns
Use GitHub for source control and collaboration and JIRA for work tracking, estimation, and sprint planning
Communicate technical concepts, design decisions, and issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field of study, or equivalent experience in IT or a related technical or engineering field
3+ years of software development experience required
Experience developing in Java
Experience creating and consuming APIs
Experience with SQL Server
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to learn quickly and independently
Experience with GitHub
Experience with JIRA
Excellent research and debugging skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to collaborate with teams at all levels
Prior claims experience preferred
Prior Securian Financial experience preferred
Experience developing in JavaScript preferred
Experience with AWS preferred
Must work in-office a minimum of 3 days per week within a commutable distance (90 minutes)
