About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a strategic legal advisor to Affinity Solutions on insurance, regulatory, product, distribution, and related business matters
- Provide legal support for direct-response insurance programs, including product design and development, policy and form review, distribution, sales and advertising materials, and ongoing regulatory compliance
- Advise on property and casualty insurance matters
- Help develop the team’s capabilities in emerging surplus-lines products and distribution models
- Serve as a resource and liaison for market conduct matters, including state regulatory inquiries and examinations
- Coordinate with compliance and regulatory partners
- Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and industry developments
- Translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance for management, business partners, and external clients
- Support debt protection, credit insurance, bank partnership, and digital lending matters
- Draft and negotiate business-related agreements
- Participate in strategic projects, new product initiatives, trade association activities, and other matters supporting Affinity Solutions
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Minnesota, or eligible to become licensed in Minnesota within a reasonable period
- 5+ years of legal experience in a law firm, government, or in-house setting
- Meaningful experience in insurance law, consumer financial services law, financial institution regulation, or a related field
- Demonstrated legal research, analysis, drafting, negotiation, advocacy, and counseling skills on complex regulatory matters
- Practical, business-oriented judgment
- Ability to balance business objectives, customer needs, and legal and regulatory risk within Securian’s risk appetite
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills
- Ability to translate technical legal concepts for management, regulators, clients, and internal business partners
- Versatility and professionalism
- Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
