About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the end-to-end execution of commercial real estate loan originations, modifications, restructurings, workouts, deed-in-lieu transactions, foreclosures, and other portfolio transactions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate mortgage loan commitments, loan documents, amendments, waivers, consents, subordination and non-disturbance agreements, and other transaction documents with minimal attorney supervision.
  • Review outside counsel work product, including loan documentation and closing deliverables, and collaborate with outside counsel, borrowers, tenants, title companies, and other stakeholders to negotiate transaction terms and resolve legal issues.
  • Independently review leases, property management agreements, ground leases, condominium documents, tenancy-in-common agreements, title, survey, and other real estate documents to identify material risks and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of commercial real estate lending, title, survey, and leasing matters to negotiate closing conditions, evaluate requests, and support sound legal and business decisions.
  • Oversee the accurate execution, recording, filing, release, and post-closing administration of loan documentation.
  • Train, mentor, and provide guidance to junior paralegals on commercial mortgage lending transactions and related processes.
  • Drive process improvements across the commercial loan lifecycle while maintaining knowledge of industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage generative AI and other technology tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and subject matter expertise.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years of experience supporting commercial real estate lending transactions, including loan originations, modifications, restructurings, and related portfolio transactions.
  • Experience with correspondent-driven origination channels is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial real estate lending, including loan documentation, title and survey matters, lien priority, UCC filings, and the parties involved in complex lending transactions.
  • Experience with multi-state transactions, portfolio transactions, and leasehold mortgages is preferred.
  • Significant experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial real estate contracts and legal documents with a high degree of independence.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal business partners and external stakeholders—including mortgage correspondents, borrowers, escrow agents, title companies, outside counsel, and third-party servicers—and communicate complex legal concepts to drive timely, successful transactions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously while working with limited attorney supervision.
  • Strong technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office, document management systems, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Experience leveraging generative AI tools to improve efficiency and work quality is a plus.
