About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collect relevant, pertinent, accurate, and timely ICD-10 diagnosis, HCPCS codes, and CPT procedural codes
- Abstract codes from hospital outpatient clinics, emergency department, surgical cases, observation, infusion, imaging, and professional billing
- Support revenue integrity by reviewing posted charges for accuracy
- Use hospital encoding systems and resources effectively
- Recognize data that can be abstracted, presented, and interpreted throughout the hospital data cycle
- Resolve coding validation and claim edits using regulatory and compliant processes
- Review coding edits and assign modifiers according to billing regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associates Degree or two years college coursework in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience, or a Seattle Children’s Apprentice Hospital Coder for no less than 12 months
- AHIMA: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P credential, or AAPC: CPC, COC, CIC, CRC, CPMA, or CPC credential
- Effective use of hospital encoding systems and resources
- Knowledge of ICD-10 diagnosis, HCPCS, and CPT procedural codes
- Ability to resolve coding validation and claim edits based on regulatory and compliant processes
- Ability to review coding edits and assign modifiers based on billing regulations
- Candidate must be physically based in WA State
