About the role

  • Ensure that donor regulations and funding guidelines relevant to the organization (Federal Budget Code, grant award notices, regulations and provisions) in their current versions are understood and fully applied in project implementation
  • Advise and support program departments and project finance teams in the planning, evaluation and follow-up of projects on all financial compliance matters; proactively take into account audit-related requirements (audit preparedness)
  • Establish and monitor a project compliance risk system and advise program departments and project finance teams on preventive and mitigating measures
  • Provide advice during contract negotiations with donors on all financial compliance issues, propose appropriate contractual wording and proactively develop solutions, especially in new and complex program contexts
  • Strengthen holistic compliance by supporting program departments in observing and systematically applying donor regulations in program work
  • Lead coordination of complex and time-consuming donor audits
  • Ensure internal communication on all audit matters between the relevant teams within the organization, and additionally with donors, where applicable with SCI/SC Europe and the auditors
  • Manage and maintain data on the key results of various audits and track recommendations or conditions resulting from audits; including deriving and developing process improvements and internal control systems
  • Systematically convey and consolidate expertise on compliance (especially financial compliance), project risks and audit topics across the organization

Requirements

  • Completed university degree with a focus on economics, law, public administration or comparable qualifications/experience
  • Several years of solid professional experience managing project finances within a large, globally operating non-profit organization in international cooperation
  • Expertise in the following areas: institutional donor guidelines at EU, federal and state level (especially ECHO, Federal Foreign Office) and conducting audits by these donors
  • Understanding of and experience in risk management
  • Experience using ERP and CRM systems
  • Knowledge and experience in non-profit law are an advantage
  • Flexible, positive and solution-oriented mindset
  • High level of initiative, decisiveness and enjoyment in shaping strategic, cross-team processes
  • Very good written and spoken German and English; additional languages, especially French or Arabic, are an advantage
