About the role
- Identifies and promotes innovation and implements cost-saving and efficient design techniques
- Leads or participates in unit and company-wide initiatives to resolve programmatic issues and improve resource and operating efficiency and quality
- Identifies needs of the assigned unit/group based on facility/program owner requirements and allocates resources to accomplish objectives
- Develops forecasts for resources, subcontractor support and equipment procurements
- Conducts periodic reconciliation of resource needs versus budgets and reallocates resources as appropriate
- Reviews status reports and trends and provides direction for corrective actions
- Ensures execution of activities consistent with expected quality, cost and schedule and aligned with company objectives
- Develops and directs implementation of technical programs to bring existing programs into compliance with new and revised requirements
- Provides technical expertise and input to Engineering Standards Board, Technical Committees, National Engineering Committees, and DOE HQ sponsored technical committees
- Establishes and maintains communications/interfaces with internal and external groups (e.g., regulators)
- Serves as a management resource for resolution of complex engineering issues
- Champions a safety conscious work environment and encourages technical improvement and diverse technologies
- Develops engineering personnel through qualification requirements, professional and technical development, coaching, and counseling
- Manages engineering subcontractor activities, authorizing new work and approving changes to subcontractor baselines
Requirements
- BS in Engineering or related technical or science degree
- Progressive engineering experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience including previous direct people management
- Project or Engineering Management experience
- May fall under DOE Order 426.2 and must meet the conditions of the order (as applicable)
- On an exception basis, equivalencies for education and experience may be applied
- Post-secondary education may reduce the years of experience required for entry
- Preferred: Broad technical base demonstrating chemical and/or nuclear material knowledge
- Preferred: Broad understanding of environmental laws and regulations, and DOE orders
- Preferred: Current SRMC work experience
- Preferred: High Level Waste, Commercial Nuclear Power, DOE Nuclear and/or Naval Nuclear management experience
