About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare and take ownership of cost estimates for bids and project proposals
- Identify risks, opportunities, and maintain a winning bid strategy
- Prepare detailed estimates from scopes of work, blueprints, specifications, and other documentation
- Perform quantity take-offs for foundations, structural steel, pipe, and process equipment
- Apply work-hour unit rates to generate total direct work hours
- Assess construction equipment, temporary facilities, and field non-manual staffing requirements
- Assist with soliciting supplier, subcontractor, and manufacturer quotes
- Distribute and control bid documents
- Identify client and project requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, HES requirements, and services
- Analyze project locations and location-related productivity
- Review labor costs and licensing requirements
- Complete and execute bid forms
- Facilitate bid review meetings with business unit management, estimating, and business line management
- Coordinate with other departments during proposal development
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years’ experience with industrial civil, structural steel, process equipment, and piping estimating
- Working knowledge of estimating software; MC2 is a plus
- Competitive bid experience in petrochemical, power, gas processing, refining, and other heavy industrial facilities
- Construction field experience highly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques
- Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities
- Knowledge of estimating best practices
- Occasional travel required
- Follow safety regulations during jobsite visits and wear required attire and safety gear
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional, ethical, team-oriented, and willing to grow with the company
- Overtime may be required
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for one-third to two-thirds of the scheduled shift
- Ability to read engineering blueprints, drawings, specifications, reports, schedules, estimates, and other documents
- Ability to observe construction progress outdoors over rough or uneven terrain
