About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in PHP
Write efficient, scalable, and secure server-side logic for a high-volume financial platform
Design relational database schemas, write complex queries, and optimise performance
Integrate third-party services, payment systems, data providers, and internal APIs
Collaborate with front-end engineers on system integration
Participate in code reviews and uphold backend engineering standards
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and security vulnerabilities
Contribute to technical documentation and maintain well-structured codebases

Requirements

What you’ll need

3 to 5 years of backend development experience with a strong PHP focus
Deep understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices
Solid experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimisation
Strong grasp of backend security fundamentals, including authentication, authorisation, data handling, and input validation
Experience working with Git in a team development environment
Ability to write clean, efficient, and well-tested code
Strong analytical and debugging skills with a systematic approach to problem solving
Experience in fintech, trading, or regulated financial services environments is advantageous
Familiarity with microservices architecture or event-driven systems is advantageous
Exposure to AWS, GCP, or Azure is advantageous
Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka is advantageous
Knowledge of Redis or Memcached caching strategies is advantageous
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Docker is advantageous
