About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Guide a team of structural engineers and interface with engineers from other disciplines and clients
  • Lead and mentor structural engineering teams on projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades or modifications to nuclear power plants
  • Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design
  • Work as part of engineering and design teams on a wide range of projects for various clients
  • Prepare, review, and provide guidance for design calculations
  • Develop specifications and work with designers on drawing development
  • Prepare, review, or guide structural analysis of safety-related structures under seismic and impactive/impulsive loading conditions
  • Potentially travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and plant sites for construction coordination and field verification

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • MSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • PE or SE license
  • Ten or more years of experience as a project-team member designing and analyzing industrial, heavy commercial, or nuclear facility structures
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STRUDL, SASSI, or ANSYS
  • Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ph.D. degree valued but not required
  • Willingness or ability to lead others using data, automation, and AI to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs
  • Oversight of engineers using Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel for engineering automation is valued but not required
  • Additional Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related learning is valued
  • Sargent & Lundy does not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position
