About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and market high-level, complex programs for nuclear power projects involving design, operational excellence, safety, maintenance, and project management
  • Direct technical decision-making in project teams designing, modifying, and analyzing new and existing power plant control systems, especially digital upgrades
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve instrumentation and controls engineering issues
  • Coordinate systems design activities to ensure installation and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements
  • Perform digital systems design development for PLC, DCS, HSI, networked computer systems, and digital instrumentation and control systems
  • Collaborate on quality assessments and critical digital reviews
  • Perform consulting-level work for digital IoT, innovation, and first-of-a-kind nuclear projects
  • Prepare and review scaling, uncertainty, and setpoint calculations for analog and digital controls applications
  • Prepare design-input documentation for drawings, master diagrams, and schematics
  • Interface with vendors on materials and equipment purchase specifications
  • Prepare clear technical reports and studies meeting client requirements
  • Independently review others' calculations and drawings
  • Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction
  • Support station outage activities as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS or MS in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program required
  • 12 or more years of experience designing instrumentation and controls engineering systems in project-team environments for non-commercial heavy industrial plants
  • Focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications/replacements of existing plants
  • Experience with controls system design for low- and medium-voltage distribution systems and equipment including turbines, pumps, feedwater control, and data displays
  • Experience designing power plant instrumentation and controls systems for BWR or PWR reactors, including DCS for turbine, control, feedwater control, and data display
  • Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems for systems design
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others
  • U.S. work authorization; the employer does not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S.
  • PE license preferred
  • Construction and start-up experience a plus
  • Commissioning experience a plus
  • Broad technical-support background across nuclear plant design, planning, testing, operations, specifications, oversight, and execution
  • Knowledge of licensing strategies for Digital I&C Modernization projects
  • Willingness or ability to lead others using automation and AI to improve engineering workflows
  • Experience overseeing Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel automation is valued but not required
  • Additional Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related learning is valued but not required
