About the role
- Implementing and sustaining the organization’s Health and Safety management programs and directing health and safety activities for all assigned plants and locations to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide direction to the plant health & safety teams and assist the plants in developing, implementing, sustaining and managing plant specific policies, procedures, programs and training (e.g., HOP, MOC, Insight).
- Implement divisional Health & Safety programs and directives across assigned plants and facilities and provide technical and high-level health & safety related training as required.
- Maintain working knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations and develop Health Safety champions in the plants.
- Conduct audits and inspections of plant and warehousing activities; train others on conducting such audits and inspections; assist with Peer-to-Peer audits.
- Review and assist with plant incident reports, conduct investigations, take appropriate action steps and assess costs to the company from safety incidents.
- Provide plant-level support during agency inspections and inform plant management of conditions which could lead to potential violations and support resolutions.
- Provide safety guidance and recommendations to operations, engineering, and other departments on plant projects; support Environmental, Refrigeration Services and Risk Management initiatives.
- Provide leadership in all areas of Health & Safety and perform additional duties as required (e.g. project management, program management, etc.).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental or chemical engineering, industrial hygiene, industrial risk, management or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of health and safety managerial experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations is required.
- Strong customer orientation; ability to develop relationships and influence managers at all levels internally and externally.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and strong and positive leadership presence.
- Ability to persist in sustaining initiatives past project completion dates.
- Strong sense of urgency in solving problems and getting the work done.
- Train and motivate others to champion health & safety success.
- Business knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with good time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
- Must be a self-starter.
- Ability to conceptualize and lead change initiatives.
- Ability to travel frequently (up to 60%) and work flexible hours.
