About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the development of strategic plans and roadmaps to improve management of Santander UK’s architectural landscape and application estate within the Enterprise Services domain
Align delivery teams and sub-domain architecture leads to the Enterprise Services Domain strategy across Santander and business lines
Review, define and maintain complex Strategic and Transitional Architectures with UK and Group colleagues
Develop holistic functional and technical architectures for sustainable, cost-effective solutions
Communicate complex concepts and strategies to influence stakeholders and align organisational goals
Review project solution designs against the bank’s strategic needs and goals, including functional, technical, network, infrastructure, security and cross-domain dependencies
Govern key architectural decisions and provide guidance to ensure consistency in deliverables, methodology and governance processes
Manage caveats and resolve associated actions
Mentor Solution Architects and support architecture governance, lifecycle management and strategic planning

Requirements

What you’ll need

Comprehensive experience working as an architect within a complex organisation with a diverse technical landscape
Pragmatic understanding of how architecture, change delivery and support perspectives interact
Ability to communicate complex concepts and influence diverse stakeholders
Excellent stakeholder management skills within the organisation and externally
Experience planning and organising architecture concepts, mentoring Solution Architects and reviewing project solution designs
Strong knowledge of integration approaches and patterns
Flexible, proactive “can do” attitude and ability to learn quickly and work calmly under pressure
Experience driving change through practical architectures and strategies aligned to IT principles and governance processes
Experience improving the Software Development Lifecycle, including CI/CD, development standards, quality gates, automation, traceability and engineering governance
Experience using EA repositories, application portfolio management and service management tools such as ServiceNow and Abacus
Experience defining architecture principles, standards, patterns, approved technology processes and technology lifecycle management in a regulated environment
Experience with modern engineering platforms and tooling including GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, SonarQube and JFrog (preferred)
Knowledge of AI-enabled software engineering capabilities such as GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development (preferred)
Degree in a computing-related subject (preferred)
English and Maths GCSE/O Level pass (preferred)
English required; Spanish preferred
Understanding of banking service domains, enterprise architecture and SDLC (preferred)
Line management experience (preferred)
Ability to represent designs illustratively and succinctly (preferred)
