About the role
- Join Sangoma, a leader in business communications, as a UX Designer focused on desk phone device-based experiences.
- You will be responsible for defining and evolving the interaction models, task flows, and usability foundations of Sangoma’s phone firmware and device interfaces.
- Provide UX design for desk phones (embedded, hardware-constrained products) with physical keys, small and/or touch screen displays.
- Define task flows and interaction patterns for telephony features such as calling, transfers, conferencing, voicemail, etc.
- Create UX and UI artifacts including user flows, wireframes, and interaction specifications, icons, and graphics.
- Produce clear interaction specifications and design documentation to support long development and maintenance cycles.
- Collaborate closely with firmware engineers to ensure UX designs are accurately implemented.
- Partner with Product Management to align UX decisions with real-world user needs and business priorities.
- Identify edge cases, error states, and recovery paths to ensure reliability under real usage conditions.
- Contribute to usability testing and incorporate feedback into iterative UX improvements.
- Ensure designs/implementations support all corporate and regulatory standards.
- Advocate for usability, consistency, and simplicity across Sangoma’s device ecosystem
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience (5+ years preferred) in UX and user interface design
- You are naturally curious, eager to learn, and motivated to understand how design decisions translate into real behavior.
- Demonstrated experience designing, task-focused, workflow-driven interfaces.
- Strong understanding of human–computer interaction (HCI) principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention.
- Comfortable prioritizing clarity, reliability, and speed of use over visual expressiveness when necessary
- Ability to communicate UX rationale clearly to engineers and non-design stakeholders.
- Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar
- Experience working in cross-functional Agile product teams.
- Preferred:
- Experience with telephony, VoIP, or enterprise communications products
- Experience designing constrained or non-traditional platforms, such as embedded devices, hardware products, enterprise tools, or operational systems.
- Understanding of localization and internationalization considerations
- Prior exposure to usability testing or field studies in enterprise or operational environments
